Obituary for Edward Murray Duffy

Edward M. Duffy has passed away at the age of 104 yrs on Thursday, January 30, 2014. He was residing with his daughter Patti in Carlsbad, California where he died peacefully from natural causes.
Ed was born to Ella and Edward Duffy on October 31, 1909 at the Duffy homestead on Lone Tree Road in Milford, Michigan. His two brothers John and Russell both died along with their father when Ed was very young. He attended school at St. Benedicts Catholic School in Detroit where he pitched the winning championship baseball game in 1927 and he graduated from University of Detroit. Ed married Billie and they lived in Highland Park. Ed had two jobs in accounting before he followed his passion and moved back to the homestead where he was a successful farmer and raised Black Angus cattle.
Ed enjoyed playing golf and the friendship of many during his years in Milford, and again in Sarasota where he moved when he was 60 yrs old. Macular degeneration of the retina lead him to replace driving and golf with bicycle riding, walking and swimming each day. He married his second wife Irene in 1977 and was the beloved grandfather of Christine and Julie and father to Mary Weaver for the 40 years he lived in Sarasota. Shortly after his 101st birthday, Ed moved to Carlsbad.
Edward Duffy is survived by his sons Norman Duffy and Jim Duffy and his daughter Patti Smiley. He is the proud grandfather of Kristen, Mary, Dan, Norman, Ryan, Terri, Johnny, Pamela, Jimmy, Heather and Christopher and 31 great grandchildren, and two great great children! Local services are to be planned for the spring.
