Obituary for Eileen Fisher-Metcalf

Eileen Josephine Fisher Metcalf (née Chapek) was born in Filion, Michigan on March 26, 1935. She was the daughter ofJoseph and Magdalena Chapek, Czechoslovakian immigrants and was the youngest daughter of 15. Her family worked the sugar beet farming industry that was once prosperous in the thumb area of Michigan.

The booming automotive industry brought Eileen and her family to the neighborhood of Delray, Detroit. This small community offered the support of the Catholic Church to Eileen and her family, and it’s parochial school system provided a means to grow and learn. In Eileen’s youth she worked directly for the nuns of her parish where she learned domestic skills and disciplines. Ultimately, this offered her lifelong skills of perfection in all domestic endeavors.

In August of 1951, Eileen married Walter Frank Fisher and together they reared four lovely daughters - Linda, Brenda, Sandra and Pamela. This new, young family thrived under Eileen’s guidance and she considered it to be the greatest contribution of her lifetime. There was no need for any of her daughters to take a sewing class, she taught all of them how to sew with great pride, amongst so many other life skills. She was not only book smart, she could repair just about anything she set her mind to. She was a seasoned domestic goddess and a world traveler! She led her life by example and with the utmost sincerity.

Eileen loved to cook and she loved to laugh - she had a great sense of humor! Eileen was known as Granny to her adoring grandchildren and together they created wonderful memories. She loved playing cards and Aggravation, pulling pranks, and planning surprise visits. She gave her gift of time to all her grandkids, leaving them with a lasting memory of Joy!

Eileen spent her leisure time working in her yard, gardening, and mowing her lawn. Baseball was a favorite pastime of Eileen, and she could regularly be found rooting for her beloved Detroit Tigers. She even coached her daughters’ league softball team. At age 42, Eileen returned to school to complete her high school education and receive her diploma. She became a member of The Baha’i Faith with her daughters in the early 80’s and enjoyed the community that it offered. She remarried later in life to Harry Metcalf who was a dear childhood friend and companion.

Eileen leaves behind four very beloved daughters, three sons-in-law, Charlie, Omid, and Robert; eight grandchildren, Parisa, Nason, Trevor, Justin, Arman, Madison, Devin, and Jade; four great grandchildren, Foster, Carolina, Landon, and Liam; and countless adoring nieces and nephews and friends! She was predeceased by son-in-law, Wayne Tackett and all of her siblings. She will be missed tremendously!
