Obituary for Elaine Frances Heater

Elaine F. (Haner) Heater transitioned from her earthly to heavenly home after a valiant battle with small cell lung cancer on August 7th, 2009. She was 70 years young and grateful to celebrate her birthday on July 27th for the whole week!
Elaine was born July 27th, 1939 and raised in Milford, Michigan, where she graduated from Milford High School in 1959. Her caption under her Senior picture was Generally speaking, shes generally speaking.
Elaine enjoyed people and worked in the Human Service Field as a Nurses Aide at Brighton and Howell (McPherson) Hospitals. She gave birth to her first child, Cindy Haner in 1965. Elaine met her husband of thirty-seven years, Fred, while working at Ford Motor Company and together had a second daughter, Debbie. Elaine and Fred lived in Milford, Canton, and later made their home in Dearborn Heights. Elaine loved her home, which she decorated in a country style with antiques, and outside she enjoyed gardening and decorating the yard with lawn ornaments.
Elaine appreciated music and her favorite artists were Patsy Kline and Elvis Presley. The song I Did It My Way does depict how Elaine lived and died. Generous, caring, friends and family made it possible for her to have her wish to die at home.
Elaine was a student of life until her last breath and shared her insights with those who could listen. She passionately and emphatically declared in her final days that the only thing that matters in this life is friends and family--material things and money are nothing without love--and I know that now.....and I am blessed because I do have a loving family and many dear friends. With regards to what happens when you die, Elaine always felt that one falls asleep and has sweet dreams-and that was her familiar goodbye-love ya, sweet dreams.

She is survived by Fred, her husband of thirty-seven years and her loyal dog, Chip; daughters, Debbie (Tim Lorenz) Heater, Cindy Haner-Velzen and her husband Steve and their son, Ian; father, Arnold Haner; sister, Gail (Steve) Lowe; nephew, Tom (Margaret) Dennis; aunts, Bernardine Russell and Gladys Coleman and many, many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Faye Haner, a granddaughter, Maya Velzen-Haner.
A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, on Monday, August 10, at 2PM. Friends may visit Monday 12PM until the time of service. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made in her name to the Am. Lung Association or to St. Jude Childrens Hospital. For further information please phone 248-684-6645.
