Obituary for Eleanor Marie Collins

Eleanor Marie Collins (nee. Harter) a resident of Midland, Michigan and former resident of Highland, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at her home in Midland. She was 85 years old. Born in Chicago, IL on October 18, 1922, Eleanor was one of three children born to Roy & Elizabeth Harter. The Harter's raised their family in Chicago before moving to Traverse City, Michigan and eventually would settle to the Hartland area where Eleanor graduated from Hartland High School in 1940. In 1942, she met a young gentleman named Arthur Collins, fell in love and was later married in Hartland in December of the same year. Eleanor & Arthur made their first home in Fenton and were blessed with the births of two sons, Gerald and John. Years later, they moved to their longtime home in Highland and welcomed the birth of Thomas, the youngest of their three sons. The Collins family remained in Highland for over thirty-four years. In 1978, Eleanor was widowed and in 1982 she remarried, becoming Mrs. Eleanor Carson. The years following were marked by the sadness of losing her son, John in 1983 and her second husband in 1984. Accustomed to being a wife for the majority of her life, Eleanor found love again and was married a third time; enjoying eighteen golden years of marriage to Mr. Drohan while living in Leesburg, FL. Widowed once more, Eleanor returned to Michigan to be nearer to her sons where she remained until her own passing.

Mrs. Collins held her faith & family at the hub of all matters. She enjoyed Christian music & television programming and adored the company of her grand and great-grandchildren.

Eleanor's sister, Virginia joins with those family members precededing her in death. In addition to her sons, Gerald (Susan) and Thomas, Mrs. Collins is survived by her grandchildren, Christopher (Reverie), Angela (Kelly) Colasanti, Maria, Diego; great-grandchildren, Christopher Jr., Amanda, Katie, Nathan, Isabella, Sonoma and Olivia. Her brother John (Frances) Harter of Camilla, Georgia and numerous nieces & nephews and dear friends also survive.

A Funeral Service will be held from Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 East Liberty, Milford on Friday, July, 25 at 2PM with Fr. Arthur Mack officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may visit Friday from 12PM until the time of service. For further information please phone 248-684-6645.
