Obituary for Elizabeth Frances Clark

Elizabeth Frances "Fran" Clark died quietly in her sleep on Friday, March 6, 2009 at her winter home in Zephyrhills, Florida. She was 86 years old.
Elizabeth Frances Clark was born on Christmas Day, 1922 to Arthur and Myrtle Katherine Rye near Clarksville, Tennessee. After her Dads untimely death, the family moved to Michigan. Fran graduated from Prescott High School in 1942. She was interested in a young high school athlete named DeWayne, but she was too shy to show much interest! DeWayne was drafted into the United States Army immediately after high school and seemed to travel farther away from home for almost three years. The friendly letters between them budded into romance.
As a young woman, Fran left Prescott to live and work in Detroit. She worked for the Detroit to Cleveland Boat Company (where Cobo Hall is currently). When DeWayne returned from duty, he proposed to Fran and they were married on April 12, 1947 in Standish, Michigan.
Fran, DeWayne and Lois moved to Milford in 1950. Fran was thrilled to be near her best friend and only sister, Irene. Fran worked several years as a nursery school teacher for 3 and 4 year olds. Later, she was the treasurer for the Village of Milford. She retired from that position when DeWaynes health required warm winter weather.
She was an active member of West Highland Baptist Church for over 40 years serving in many different areas of ministry. Fran enjoyed participating in the Milford Historical Society, Zonta of Milford, and Milford YMCA.
DeWayne preceded Fran in death (1999). She is survived by her loving family, daughter and son in law, Lois and Tom Armstrong, grandchildren, Mark & Anne Armstrong, Monica and Rustin Phillips, great grandsons Owen, Eli & Grady Armstrong, and Kellen Phillips, sister, Irene Lawrence, nephews and nieces Ken and Brenda Lawrence, Keith and Cindy Lawrence, Mike and Karen Hritz and many great nephews and nieces, family and friends. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at 11 AM at West Highland Baptist Church, Pastor Tom Roberts will officiate. Burial will follow in Milford Memorial Cemetery. Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, on Tuesday from 2-9PM. Memorial contributions can be made to West Highland Baptist Church or Milford Historical Society.
