Elizabeth Jean Rossman, a resident of East Lansing, Michigan for 55 years, passed away on June 27, 2008 in West Bloomfield, Michigan. Mrs. Rossman was born on December 15, 1919 in St. John, Washington, the daughter of Edmund Leroy and Florence Elizabeth (Rogers) Schell. Mrs. Rossman was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Elmer Chris Rossman, her parents, brother, Roger Edmund (Irene) Schell of New Jersey, and sister, Margaret Virginia (William) Wilson of Oregon. She is survived by sons, Chris Edmund (Judy) Rossman of Commerce Township, Michigan and David William (Patricia) Rossman of Marietta, Georgia; daughter, Janet Kay Rossman of Stamford, Connecticut; grandchildren, Mark (Alana) Rossman and Jonathan Rossman, William Rossman and Neil Rossman, Alexander John Moazed and Christina Jean Moazed, Michele (John) Gutkowski, Michael (Jenny) Wagner and Jennifer (Tim) Hamilton; eight great grandchildren; nieces, Barbara Reed, Janet Brickman and Doreen Myers; and nephew, Ernest Schell. Mrs. Rossman grew up in western Oregon, attended Oregon State University and graduated from Willamette University with B.A. degrees in English Literature, Fine Art and Library Science. She was married to Mr. Elmer Chris Rossman, Ph.D., in East Lansing where they resided and raised their family. Mrs. Rossman was a respected and versatile artist with published works and exhibitions. She was involved for many years with the Fine Art Departments of Michigan State University and Lansing Community College, to which she contributed and patronized. Mrs. Rossman established the Elmer C. Rossman Endowed Scholarship at Michigan State University in the name of her husband.
A visitation and Memorial Service for Mrs. Rossman and her husband, Elmer, will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 408 East Liberty Street in Milford, Michigan, on Friday, August 1, 2008. Visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00 AM to Noon. The Memorial Service will be from Noon to 1:00 PM, with Rev. Edward R. Knox, D.Min., Chaplain, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in the name of Mrs. Rossman to the Lansing Community College Art Department at LCC Foundation, P.O. Box 40010, MC 8021, Lansing, Michigan, 48901-7210. Elmer Chris Rossman
November 17, 1919 - November 16, 1989
Mrs. Rossman�s husband, Elmer Chris Rossman, was born on November 17, 1919 in Rawlins, Wyoming, the son of Christian and Margrethe (Knudsen) Rasmussen, later Rossman. Mr. Rossman passed away on November 16, 1989 at his home in East Lansing, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Evelyn (William) Carey. Mr. Rossman was a professor at Michigan State University, Department of Crop and Soil Sciences and MSU Extension Service for 42 years. He was a distinguished plant geneticist, research agronomist, corn breeder and pioneer in developing new hybrids. He received his B.S. in Agronomy from Oregon State University, his M.S. in Agronomy from Michigan State University and his Ph.D. in Plant Breeding from Iowa State University. Honors include the Distinguished Alumnus Award of Phi Kappa Psi, membership in Sigma Xi, Gamma Sigma Delta, American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Genetic Association, citations in American Men and Women in Science, Who�s Who in America and World Notables, among many others.
