Obituary for Elizabeth L. Carley

Elizabeth L. (Osborne) Carley, a resident of Novi, and former resident of Livonia and Gladwin, died on September 2, 2011 after suffering a heart attack a day earlier. She was 80 years old.
Born in Dearborn on January 5, 1931, the daughter of William and Mildred (Keeley)Osborne, Betty grew up in Dearborn and northwest Detroit where she was a graduate of Immaculata High School. It was in school that she met Donald Carley. They fell in love, and when he returned from his service in the U.S. Army they married on July 25, 1953. They made their home and raised their family in Livonia and Betty worked at Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, where she was a Program Administrator for over twenty-seven years. They later retired to Gladwin.
Betty was a devoted mother, ever active in Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, camping and other ventures with her children. She enjoyed playing cards and board games, was a ferocious reader, her favorite being murder mysteries, and even as she lost her sight enjoyed listening to her book recordings. And she loved to travel. Among her favorites were trips to Las Vegas, the Caribbean, and two special cruises she organized for her entire family, and for whom she taught the value of enjoying the present, great trips and each other.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald in 1998, a son, Daniel, and sister, Shirley. She is survived by children, William, Donna (Ken) Koenig, John (Karen), Barbara, Joseph (Debra), James (Nancy); grandchildren, Lindi Koenig, Chris (Marianne) Koenig, Cynthia (Richard) Smith, Michelle (Brian) Przybycki, Steven, Michael, Christopher, Anthony & Alexander Carley; great grandchildren, Jonathan Antol, Luke Koenig, Jade & Ethan Smith, and Brendan & Madison Przybycki and many nieces, nephews and dear friends who join her family in mourning her passing and giving thanks to God for her life among them.

A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, on Tuesday, September 6, at 1PM. Friends may visit Tuesday 11AM until time of service. Memorials may be made in her name to the American Heart Assoc. or American Diabetes Assoc. For further information please phone 248-684-6645.
