Obituary for Elizabeth Marie Goenner

Elizabeth Marie Goenner of Milford died on Saturday, July 19, 2008 at Huron Valley Hospital. She was 83 years old. Born on July 30, 1924 in New York City, she was the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Carmody) Woods. She grew up in Queens and went to school there and after high school met and fell in love with Edward Goenner who was serving in the Army during World War II. They married on August 19, 1944 and raised their three sons and daughter in New York and moved to Milford thirty years ago. Soon after coming to Milford, her dear husband died in May of 1979 and she has spent the years since among her family and friends, enjoying needlepoint, sewing and painting ceramics and since 9/11 making and giving away hundreds of American flag pins. She enjoyed riding the senior van with friends, making clothes for her grandchildren, doing crossword puzzles, and though she worried about the world her family would inherit, her faith saw her through in good times and bad.
She is survived by her sons, Edward (Cecelia d.2000) Goenner, Mark (Vicki) Goenner, and her daughter, Diane (Michael) Herron. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward (d.1979) and her son John and his late wife, Rosary and their daughter Marsha (d.1976). Her grandchildren, Christopher (Hollie), Jeffrey (Melissa), Edward (Mary), Richard (Kristen), Shannon, Laura, Alyssa also survive as well as great-grandchildren, Nathan, Emma, Madelyn, Edward, Nicholas, and Evan. A brother Don (Dorothy) Woods, several nieces and nephews and her life long friend, June (Alexander) Rosie join with her family in mourning her death and giving thanks to God for her life among them.

A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, Monday, July 21st, 2008 at 11 AM. Fr. Ron Anderson will officiate. Burial Milford Memorial Cemetery. Friends may visit Sunday 4-9 PM. For further information please phone 248-684-6645.
