Obituary for Ernest John Seebaldt

Ernest “Ernie” Seebaldt, a longtime resident of Highland Twp., passed away on June 11, 2018 in the loving care of his family after challenges with atrial fibrillation. He was 81 years old.

Born April 29, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan, Ernie was one of five children born to parents Edward A. and Lillian M. (nee. O’Malley) Seebaldt. Ernie and his siblings were raised in the Detroit community. A 1955 graduate of University of Detroit Jesuit High School, Ernie continued his education at Loyola University and earned his teaching certificate through Michigan State University. Mr. Seebaldt dedicated his 32-year career to the Detroit Public Schools at Western International High School teaching physics, physical science and photography.

He had a passion for gardening and the outdoors, especially raising chickens on his property for their eggs. He also enjoyed repairing cars and tinkering with all machines. In later years, he came to enjoy reading westerns and thrillers. Ernie was always willing to lend a hand to his family or friends.

He was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Hartland (Howell), MI, for 45 years, also serving as an usher for many years. Ernie was a lifetime member of the George F. Monaghan Council #2690 of Knights of Columbus in Livonia, Michigan and a longtime usher at St. John Catholic Church of Howell.

Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lillian Seebaldt, and brothers, Edward “Eddie” Seebaldt and James “Jim” Seebaldt.

In addition to Barbara (LaBerge), his beloved wife of nearly 53 years, Ernie is survived by their daughter, Anne; sisters, Mary (James) Keating and Peggy Seebaldt; sister-in-law, Pat Seebaldt as well as many cousins, extended family and dear friends.
