Obituary for Erwin W. Schneider

Erwin W. Schneider, a resident of Highland Township, Michigan and Lady Lake, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at the age of 80.

Born in Detroit on August 19, 1932, Erwin was the son of Karl and Julia (nee Fessler) Schneider. Following high school graduation he began his training for his career in the automotive industry. Like most men during those times, Erwins career was put on hold as he answered the call to serve his country in the U.S. Navy. While home for the Holidays, he met Betty Garchow while trimming a Christmas Tree at church. Not long after their meeting, Erwin proposed to Betty by mail upon his return to Norfolk, Virginia where he was stationed throughout his service; quite certain amidst uncertain times of war and peace, that she was the one. They were married on June 16, 1956 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Farmington, Michigan.

Erwin & Betty were later blessed with the births of their five children. In 1973, they moved to their home on Tipsico Lake Road in Highland Township where they have enjoyed seeing their family grow with grandchildren. Erwin was happiest in the company of his family and enjoyed taking them on camping adventures, including trips to Yellowstone and the Great Smoky Mountains National Parks. He enjoyed tinkering about his home in Highland and the family cottage on Higgins Lake, where many fond memories are marked by fishing trips on his boat, and rounds of Pinnacle and Euchre with his children, grandchildren and friends. Erwin also enjoyed visiting Soaring Eagle, Turtle Creek and Odawa Casinos, loved playing Volleyball and was a devoted local sports follower, most proud of his Detroit Tigers, Lions and Red Wings. He was a Tool-maker with General Motors for over twenty-five years, a devoted member of UAW Local 659 and American Legion-both in Milford, Michigan Post 216 and Lady Lake, Florida Post 347.

In addition to his beloved wife, Betty and their children, Michael (Twila), Lynn (Gary) Murawa, Paul, Dean (Carol), Susan (Tim) Schutz, Erwin is survived by his grandchildren, Stephanie, Matthew and Sierra Schneider, Sara (Mark) Feeney, Katelyn and Jennifer Murawa, Tommy, Joey, Lillian, Nicky, Julia and Alex Schneider, Caleb, Corban and Cohen Schutz; brother, Karl (Donna); sister-in-law, Nancy Schneider; many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

A Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, Monday, November 19, from 2-8 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at Shepherd of the Lakes, 2101 South Hacker Rd., Brighton, Tuesday at 11 AM with Pastor Mark Milatz officiating. Burial Glen Eden Cemetery, Livonia. Memorials may be made to the church. For further information please phone Lynch & Sons Funeral Home at 248-684-6645.
