Obituary for Eunice C. Elkington

Eunice (June) Curtiss Elkington (1925-2009), a resident of Abbey Park at Mill River (New Hudson, MI), died quietly on Saturday, October 17 at St Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She is survived by many friends as well as her loving husband of 60 years, George Arthur Elkington; her four children and their spouses and partners: William and Patricia, Thomas and Patricia, Nancy, and James and Andy; and four grandchildren and their spouses: Kristen and Dan, Brian and Alaine, Katharine and Nathaniel; and her brother-in-law Stanley Squinobal, her niece Sandra and nephew Barry and their families.
Born in Connecticut on February 22, 1925, June fondly remembered her childhood years with her sister Jeannette, commuting into New York while working as a secretary in the Chrysler Building, her teaching years in the mountains of Virginia, her volunteering years at the Detroit Historical Museum and the American Heart Association, and the many summers (and even a few winters) she spent on Torch Lake, Michigan. She made lifelong friends wherever she went and will be missed by many, especially her friends among the memberships of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Elk Rapids and St. Clare's Episcopal Church in Ann Arbor.
Two memorial events will be held. The first will take place on Thursday October 22 at 9:30am at St. Clare's Episcopal Church in Ann Arbor (2309 Packard Street). A second service will be held during the summer of 2010 at St. Paul's Church in Elk Rapids, Michigan.
June's family requests that no flowers be sent. Instead, donations in her name to the American Heart Association would be most appreciated, with acknowledgments sent to her husband George. To make a memorial donation by telephone, please call 1-800-242-8721 and select "Donations" from the voice menu. If you prefer to write a check, please mail it to: American Heart Association, 208 South LaSalle Street, Suite 1500, Chicago, IL 60604-1242, mentioning both June and George.
For further information please phone Lynch & Sons, Milford, at 248-684-6645.
