Evan Michael McCord, of Milford, died on Thursday, November 20, 2008 after a long struggle with depression. He was 18 years old. Born on April 17, 1990, he was the son of Pamela and Michael McCord. He graduated from Milford High School where he was a member of the inaugural swimming team. He lettered in the sport for three years. Evan was a good student who loved science and math, was an avid reader and always curious. Dont get me story books, he told his mother when he was five and they were shopping at Borders books, I just want information. He enjoyed science fiction, heavy metal music, video games and camping with his friends. He was a civil war buff and a History Channel addict. Patient and tenacious, he would study the way things worked. Before he could talk, he disassembled and reassembled a coffee table in the family home and would have, in time, become a great engineer. As gifted and intelligent as Evan was, he also suffered chronic and severe depressions, for which he was treated in recent years. After graduating from Milford High School this past summer, and beginning his studies at Central Michigan University, he and his family had great hopes for the future. But an acute episode of depression, which returned this autumn, proved tragically overwhelming.
In addition to his parents, Evan is survived by his dear brother, Ian MacKay McCord and their big old dog, Turner. He is the grandson of Tom and Lillian Gordon of White Lake and the late Mary Janet and Malcolm Christian McCord. He is also survived by uncles and aunts, Joseph T. and Marie Gordon, Todd and Christine Gordon, Malcolm C. and Jeanne McCord, many cousins and dear friends who join with his family in mourning the death of a fine young man and giving thanks to God for his life among them.
Funeral services will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, in Milford on Tuesday at 11 AM. Following cremation his ashes will be entombed at Kirk in the Hills in Bloomfield Hills. Friends and family may visit at the funeral home on Monday from 3-9PM. For further information please phone 248.684.6645.
