Frank John Walcheck passed away on April 6, 2021 in the early morning hours. He was 71 years old.
Born in Detroit’s Arte Center Hospital to Walter and Anna (Pszcolka) Walcheck. Frank leaves behind a sister, Patricia (William) Plemmons and brother, Richard (Suzanne) Walcheck. He doted over his seven nieces and nephews, 12 great nieces and nephews and 17 great grand nieces and nephews.
Frank graduated from Western High School in Detroit, Michigan in 1968. He continued his education, receiving an Associates in Business from Detroit Business College. He enlisted in the Army in 1971 and shipped out to Vietnam for a tour of duty. Frank was a Specialist 4th Class and worked as an Avionics Mechanic.
After returning to civilian life, Frank chose jobs that enabled him to build on the skills he learned from his years in the military. He enjoyed fixing things and liked to share stories about his time employed with Toledo Scales repairing the large scales. Frank also enjoyed repairing televisions and tinkering with small appliances.
In between working, Frank returned to college and earned other various degrees. He was an enthusiastic learner and a self described "Word Smith". He enjoyed impressing people with his vast vocabulary.
Frank was an avid outdoorsman, belonging to the Washtenaw Sportsman’s Club, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. Some of Frank’s favorite memories included camping with family and dining out.
Surrounded by loved ones, Frank passed away peacefully on April 6th at 2:14 AM at the Blossom Springs Assisted Living Facility in Oakland Township, Michigan. Frank’s family is grateful for the love and care Blossom Springs provided during his final days.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St Mary Our Lady of the Snows, 1955 E. Commerce St., Milford, MI on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at 11:30AM with a gathering beginning at 10:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
