Obituary for Freda K. Luker

Freda K. Luker, a resident of Milford, died March 24, 2011. She was 85 years old.

Freda K. Luker, a longtime resident of Milford, died on Thursday, March 24th in the care of her family and Sunrise Assisted Living. She was 85 years old. Born on February 12, 1926 in the rural community of Lost Prairie, in Southern, Illinois, she was the daughter of Erhardt and Anna (Caupert) Mayer. After graduation from Pinkneyville High School, at the tender age of 17, she moved to St. Louis where she met Henry W. Luker, the love of her life, recently home from his service in the US Navy during World War II. They were married on February 26, 1949. Freda worked primarily for the Missouri Pacific and later the Norfolk and Southern Railroads, where she was the office manager. In 1967, Henrys career in cemetery management brought the family to the Detroit area and they settled in Redford Township with their teenage children. They were longtime members of Redford Lutheran Church until they moved to their home on Pinewood Drive in Milford in 1978 and later became active members of Christ Lutheran Church.
Freda Luker was a devout and humble Christian woman who brought the values she was raised with on the farm in Illinois to her career and marriage. She was thrifty and never threw anything away; she was a great cook and avid reader who loved the library and sharing books with her grandchildren and long summer days at the cottage on Lake Huron where she found so much to be grateful for. Faith and family were central to Fredas life. She and Hank traveled to France in her 60s to be present after the birth of a grandchild. She was very close to her sister, Edith, who currently lives in St. Louis, and loved her brothers, Ted, Fred, and Carl, all of whom had preceded her in death. Her beloved Henry, with whom she shared 56 years of marriage, passed in 2006. This sadness she accepted with the same quiet faith that had marked their life together.
Freda Luker is survived by her sons, Dennis (Frances) Luker and Ronald Luker, and her daughter, Linda (Donald) Blouin; her grandchildren, Brian Blouin, Daniel Luker, Kathryn Luker, and Kevin Blouin; her dear sister, Edith (David) Verderber and many loving extended family members and dear friends who join with her family in mourning the death of a dear woman and giving thanks to God for her life among them.

Funeral Services will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 620 General Motors Road, Milford, on Monday, March 28th at 11 AM with Pastor Richard Pape officiating. Burial Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, Sunday 4 - 8 PM. Memorials may be made to Concordia University, Ann Arbor & Christ Lutheran Pre-school. For further information please call 248-684-6645.
