GRIEF & HEALING
affirmations to uplift & help you through
each stage of the grieving process.
Gail D. Tillotson, a 35 year resident of Lake Sherwood in Commerce Twp, MI (more recently of Brighton, MI) passed away peacefully under the merciful care of Providence Hospital in Novi, MI after a decade of serious health issues. She was surrounded by her devoted family and many dear friends. She was 80 years old.
Gail was born in Detroit, MI on May 26, 1937, the daughter of Scandinavian immigrants William M. and Catherine W. Carlsen. She grew up in Detroit and was a graduate of Cooley High School. She went on to work in the ROTC offices of Wayne State University, among other professions. However, the most important job to her was being a mom; she exemplified the definition of motherhood through her actions and constant expression of love.
On August 14, 1976 she married Dick Tillotson on Higgins Island, Lake Sherwood. As so many have said about Gail, she was a lover of life. No matter what she was doing she had fun--whether it was traveling the world with “Dickums,” camping, spending time at their Florida condo, going to the casino, shopping, watching old movies on TCM or spending “Grammy Wednesdays” with her grandchildren.
Gail and Dick had a remarkable marriage for 36 years, creating a home filled with love. Gail’s career turned to advertising and sales with the Monthly Shopper for many years until she retired. Until her death, she vowed that Dick was the love her life. He predeceased her on January 21, 2013. It broke her heart and she missed him every single day.
In addition to her beloved kitty Gracie, Gail is survived by her adoring children Bruce (Marcia) Tillotson, Cindy (Paul) Kauff, Bob (Karen James) Tillotson, Steve (Lily) Stokes; grandchildren Baylee Stokes, Alex (Danielle) Volante, David Kauff, Alan Tillotson and Brooke Ari Stokes, and niece & nephew Wendy (Jim) Hava. She also leaves behind extended family and many dear friends who join together to mourn the death of a loving, funny, generous and always optimistic special woman.
God Bless You Gail Delores Tillotson. May you rest in peace. We thank you for sharing your light with the hundreds who were blessed to know and love you.
