Obituary for Gary A. "Girard" Girard

Gary A. “Girard” Girard, a resident of Milford since 1980, ‘left the building’, surrounded by love on September 30, 2019, after battling cancer since December. He was 68 years old.

Born in Detroit, Michigan on September 23, 1951, the son of Alden Edmund Girard and Lila Jean Harris Girard, Gary grew up in Livonia where he was a graduate of Stevenson High School. It was during high school that he met Cheryl Blaesing. They fell in love and married on May 6, 1972. They settled in Milford, where Gary built their home on Rowe Road, into which they moved on April 1, 1980.

Gary made his career in management with several logistics firms and retired from The Matrix Systems in 2017 and also enjoyed working in real estate. He was a hard worker, and when he was at home he enjoyed working his gardens, caring for his trees, and fixing and remodeling things for optimal function. He loved cars, was a great driver, racer, and enjoyed building and working on his cars and outings in his red Corvette, “his baby”, and the camaraderie of his North Oaks Corvette Club. He taught his daughters to use tools, change tires, and took pride in their ability to be able to do anything without reliance of others. Gary also taught his daughters the importance of being there for people in need as he helped fill a father role to many young people who needed a mentor and example to follow. In the last couple years he and Cheryl enjoyed travel and had many great adventures, including trips to Texas, California, Arizona, and Las Vegas. He also loved to “head north” to his daughter’s “Mast Escape.” He was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be dearly missed.

In addition to Cheryl, his beloved wife of over 47 years, he is survived by his daughters, Melissa (Tom) Mast and Erin (Patrick) Reynolds; his granddaughter, Emily Mast; sisters, Kim (Dana) Swan and Val (Rick) Jones; sisters and brothers-in-law, Deb (Gary “Clintsy”) Clinton, Cathy Blaesing, Annette (Norm) Peach, Russ (Marianne) Blaesing and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.

A Memorial Gathering will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty Street, Milford, on Saturday, October 5, from 5-8PM.

Memorials may be made in his name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
