George Erwin Marks, of Commerce, passed away on December 9, 2011. He was 69 years old.
George was dedicated to his family and he treasured having his grandkids visit for the weekend. He enjoyed educating his grandkids about life and various skills. The grandkids would help him around the house; digging in the yard, stacking wood, pumpkin carving, raking leaves, shoveling snow, decorating the house for the holidays. Together they took pleasure in TV movie-night with home-made popcorn from an old-fashioned popcorn maker and stayed warm by a wood-burning stove. George was glad to take his grandkids on bike rides, swimming, sledding, snow skiing, visits to the lake cottage, water-tubing and many more adventures.
George's passion was tinkering and he was always creating ways to improve things. He owned several welding devices and anyone who had seen his welding work commented "That they had never seen such high quality welding". George loved working on vehicles and built his own enduro racing motorcycle and dune buggy. He also created many towing trailers and had people offer to purchase them; as they looked factory-built and were of robust construction. He owned different woodworking equipment and found pleasure in building cabinets, tables and picture frames.
George's Philosophy: If there's a way to do it better; find it!
He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Terrie Marks; loving children Andrew (Annie) Marks, and Aaron (Bonny) Marks; grandchildren Evan, Emma and Joshua, as well as extended family and friends.
