George Stanley Hendricks, age 87, a long time resident of Southfield and Highland, MI passed away on February 4, 2012. George was born on February 22, 1924, in Detroit, MI, the third son of Charles and Helen Hendricks. After graduating from Northwestern High School, George studied for two years at Western Michigan University. He then joined the Navy where he served on the USS Pennsylvania during World War II and fought in many naval battles throughout the Pacific. On February 1, 1947, he married his beloved wife, Mildred Maceyko. Millie and George were devoted to each other for fifty-four years of marriage before Millie�s death on June 25, 2001. Together they raised six children in Southfield, MI. George worked for Burroughs Corporation in Production Control until he retired. Throughout the years, they enjoyed family vacations at Burroughs Farms recreational park and at a cottage in Grand Bend, Ontario. During his retirement years, George enjoyed part-time work in the produce department at Colasanti�s Market in Milford, MI where his humor and warm personality were appreciated by customers and co-workers alike. George was very proud of his Polish heritage. He especially liked dancing and listening to polka music as well as enjoying Polish cuisine. He was fun loving and a hard worker devoted to his faith and family. He enjoyed being with friends and family and always had a sense of humor. He leaves behind fond memories for those who call him Dad, Grandpa, �dziadzio� (pronounced Jah-jaw), Uncle George or simply, George. He is survived by his brothers, Raymond and Stanley Hendricks; his children, Sandie (the late Jerry) Syke, John (Liddy) Hendricks, Denise A. (Ed Eckhout) Hendricks, Pam (Charlie) Landauer, Bobbie (Noel) Henry and Mike (Denise M.) Hendricks; his eleven grandchildren, Jerry Syke, Scott (Annie) Syke, Stacy (Neill) Jakobe, Jonathan (Stephanie) Arnold, Kate Hendricks, Jed Landauer, Joe (Naomi Geherty) Landauer, John Henry, Matthew, Andrew and Christopher Hendricks; his nine great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Hazel Syke, Eva and Isaiah Jakobe, Bella and Jackson Arnold, Saoirse, Conor and Grace Landauer. He was predeceased by his brother Frank Hendricks and his sisters, Irene Bashur, Margaret Babula and Martha Hendricks. George lived well and was loved by many. As he reunites with his beloved wife, Millie and all before him, may they all be blessed with eternal peace.
A Funeral Liturgy will be held at Church of the Holy Spirit, 3700 N. Harvey Lake Road, Highland, on Thursday, February 9, at 10AM. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, on Tuesday 5-9PM and Wednesday 2-9PM, with a Rosary Wednesday 6PM. For further information please phone 248-684-6645.
