Obituary for Gerald D. Leet

Gerald Duane Leet, 98, went to be with his Lord on December 11, 2017 while residing at Village Manor Retirement in Hartland Michigan. Gerry recently moved from Raleigh North Carolina, where he resided for the last 15 years, to Michigan to be closer to family. Gerry was born on September 28, 1919 near Middleton in Gratiot County Michigan to James and Ruby (Wood) Leet. Gerry graduated from Lansing Eastern High School and later graduated from MSU in 1941 with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. As a ROTC graduate he immediately joined the Army artillery. His career in the Army included service in WWII until 1946 and then in active Reserve until he retired as a Lt. Colonel in 1979. In 1946 he started a more than 30-year career in the oil industry, as an engineer with Phillips, and then as an executive with Standard Oil, Amoco, Leonard, retiring from Total Petroleum. In retirement he enjoyed gardening, his cats, church, watching sports on television especially MSU football, genealogy, and investing.

Gerry was extremely proud of his four children and three step children. He is survived by two of his children: Dr. Duane (Christine) Leet of Landrum South Carolina and Linda (David) Luoma of Highland Michigan and two stepchildren, Robert (Sue) Foster of Cadillac Michigan and JoEllen (Wayne) Foster of Walled Lake Michigan. He was preceded in death by two of his children: Dr. Douglas (Barbara) Leet and Lawrence Leet and stepdaughter Carol Foster. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy (1961), Jeanne (2000), Louise (2009) and his two siblings J. Lynn Leet and Wilma Durkee. He survived by 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

A Memorial service will be held at the Milford Presbyterian Church on on December 29, 2017 at 11:00 AM.
