Gerald "Jerry" Osborn, 73, died Saturday, June 1, 2013 at the Huron Valley Hospital in Commerce Township following a lengthy illness.
Born and raised in Milford, the son of Lee and Ona Osborn, he was a lifelong resident of the town.
After graduating from Milford High School in 1957, he attended Michigan State University where he majored in business, then attended General Motors Institute, studying dealership management. Jerry, along with his father, managed the family's car dealership in Milford, Lee Osborn Pontiac/Cadillac/GMC until it was sold to the LaFontaine family in 1985.
After the sale of the dealership, Jerry took on what he considered his most rewarding job, driving a bus for Huron Valley Schools. As a bus driver, he loved the social interaction with the other drivers, mechanics, and especially the students where he was known by the nickname Ozzie. In 1996, Jerry opened a small restaurant with his wife called Ozzies Caf and Malt Shop, which operated until it was sold in 2000 and was located where the Milford House is today. He continued working as a bus driver while the restaurant was operating and after it closed until he finally retired from driving in 2008.
An avid collector of antique toys, trains and sports memorabilia, Jerry was a longtime member of several collectors organizations and spent much of his free time working on refining and proudly displaying his collections.
Jerry had a passion for animals, raising and breeding Alaskan sled dogs for many years. As he got older, he adopted a German Shepard (Eve) who has been his faithful companion and best friend for the past ten years. Coincidentally, Eve passed away just three weeks prior to Jerrys death.
He leaves his sons, Kevin (Rebecca) and Brian (Michelle) Osborn; three grandchildren, Alexandra, Mitchell and Leah; and many close friends.
