Obituary for Gerilyn Marie Law

Gerilyn Law (Grandis), the doting Nana, unwavering party thrower, family glue and golfer died in her home on September 26 after a long battle with cancer. Geri was 60-years old and survived by her loving husband and best friend Jack of 36 years and two adult children Joey Godin and Dana Shaw. Geri was blessed with four grandchildren, Ignatius Godin, and Alex, Brian, and Macy Shaw. She is the only daughter to her survived and loving parents Gerald (Jerry) and Conchitta (Googs) Grandis, and daughter-in-law to John and Euginia (deceased) Law. She was the beloved sister to Scott, Chris and Gregg Grandis, and sister-in-law to Gail, Cherie and Laura Grandis, Peggy Riley, Jayne Goebel-Law, Patty Lawrence (deceased), Carolyn and John Cigna and David and Deanne Law.

She was the aunt to 11 loving nieces and 9 nephews who will always remember celebrating Christmas Eve at her home or spending hot summer days in her pool or fishing off her dock on Tagget Lake. Her nieces and nephews include Scott, Laura and Colleen Grandis, Nicholas and Alexis Grandis, Olivia and Garrett Grandis and Madeline Civiello, Sean, Michael, Christopher Riley and Meghan Coleman (Riley), Michael Goebel, Shannon (Lawrence) Tindall, Joey Cigna (deceased), Jenna Casillas (Cigna), Justine Curtis (Cigna), Tarren, DJ and Taylor Law.

Geri, born Gerilyn Marie Grandis, October 16, 1959 was the spirited, vivacious daughter in an Italian/Irish family of six and the only girl amongst her three sibling brothers. She always said she never wanted a sister because her brothers treated her like a princess. Growing up she enjoyed Sunday dinners at her Nana’s or Grandma’s, hanging out with all her cousins and spending summer months at the family’s cottage on White Lake.

Geri gave the true meaning to “Girls Just Want to Have Fun”. As a teenager, and young adult, her number one goal was to get friends together to do just that - have fun! She carried that passion throughout her adult life and crafted numerous parties that you would think Martha Stuart created.

She was also a trailblazer when it came to her self-built career. With little experience she applied to work in the Medical Records Department at Huron Valley Hospital. She quickly climbed the ladder there becoming manager and continued working in the medical records field for more than 30 years.

Geri was an anti-bullying advocate and enjoyed increasing the awareness of bullying in her neighborhood schools to help make a difference. She also volunteered at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Jack and Geri enjoyed so much of life together including spending time with their grand babies, watching their children grow into adults and spending time with family, and friends. They also loved to golf and spend time on the water soaking up the sun and breathing in the fresh air. Their love for each other was immeasurable.
