Gordon ‘Mike’ Micoff, a resident of Melvin, died on Wednesday, October 13, 2021. He was 76 years old.
Born on March 8, 1945 in Mount Clemons, Michigan, he was the oldest son of Fred and Revia (Risner) Micoff, Sr. Growing up in Marine City, Gordon spent many days enjoying the rivers and helping his dad with jobs in his construction business. During high school, he was active on the football team and was a force to be reckoned with on the line! When he was done playing football, Gordon served in the US Air Force until he was honorably discharged. After that, he took some time out to travel and was known to go wherever the wind took him.
Gordon met the love of his life, Elaine, and they married soon after. They called many places home, all the way from Marine City, Michigan, to Lakeland, Florida, then back to Yale, Michigan and the latest place was Melvin, Michigan. While living in Florida, he continued by building his own construction business and was quite successful with it. Even though they enjoyed their time in Florida, Gordon and Elaine missed being closer to family and so decided to relocate back to Michigan. He then started Micoff Precast which supplied business materials for residential and commercial purposes, which is what he is remembered for most.
Gordon loved the outdoors and working with his hands. He was skilled in the construction trades, owned and loved his horses when he had them, enjoyed riding motorcycles and building lawn ornaments after he retired from his business ventures. He was an avid storyteller and loved to talk about his time in the military as well as his other travels. Gordon most of all loved his family and would call his brothers weekly to check in on them. He also enjoyed his pets, especially his two dogs, Buddi and Bear.
Gordon was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Elaine (Rew) Micoff; brothers, Fred Micoff, Jr., Danny Micoff; nephew, Joshua Micoff; and brother-in-law, J. Walter Beil.
He is survived by his brother, David (Cindy) Micoff, and sister-in-law Margaret Micoff; brother and sisters-in-law, Shirley Rew-Beil, Harold "Bing" Rew, Richard "Dick" (Sue) Rew, Charlynne (Jim) Rew-Busek, and Londa "Loni" (Hugo) Rew-Rasado. Also survived by many nieces and nephews, other extended family members and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at Open Door Missionary Church, 770 Sanilac Road, Sandusky, MI 48471, on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 3 PM with gathering beginning at 2 PM.
