Gwendola Vernier (nee Smith), a resident of Highland Township., passed away in Commerce Township, Michigan on Sunday, November 25, 2012 at the age of 72.
Born in Pineville, Kentucky on September 6, 1940, Gwen one of nine children of Andrew & Mary (nee Denny) Smith. She was a 1959 graduate of Hartland High School and made her longtime home in Highland Township where she raised her family and worked as a Librarian Aid with Highland Township Library for thirty-one years. Gwen loved a good story, especially those marked by romance and the old West. In addition to her love of literature, she also loved music, playing piano and was a devoted fan of Elvis Presley-never forgetting the time she got to see the King. She will be remembered as an abiding Christian woman, loving mother and grandmother, who enjoyed life and all it�s butterflies.
She is survived by her loving children, David (Debbie) Vernier, Melanie (Matthew) Locke; grandchildren, Charlotte and David Vernier III and Michael (Heather) Blitz; siblings, Zella (the late Duane) Hackett, Ann (the late Larry) Glenn, Ed (Carolyn) Smith, Vernon (Elizabeth) Smith, Merle (Juanita) Smith, Freida (Craig) Eicholtz, Carolyn Steiner and Cathy (Jeff) Teggerdine. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, Wednesday, November 28 at 11 AM. Pastor Mike Hefner for officiate. Burial Highland Cemetery. Friends may visit on Tuesday 4-8 PM. For further information please call 248-684-6645.
