Obituary for Harry R. Yeager

Harry Richard Yeager (a.k.a. Rick) passed away at home in Milford on Tuesday, February 8th, 2022, following a long and valiant battle with cancer. He was 71 years old.

Born on August 10, 1950, in Shelby, Michigan, he was the son of Richard (Dick) and Marie (Mahar) Yeager, who were long-time residents of Milford. Harry is survived by his loving wife Sandy, and was a proud dad and grandpa to his son Nick, grandson Jackson, and granddaughter Charlotte. He is also survived by his brother Mike (Judy), sister Donna, daughter-in-law Amy-Lynn, nieces Lisa and Lia, and nephew Brett. Harry had many close friends that he also considered family, including his two best friends Ted and Kerry, who were like brothers to him.

Harry graduated from Milford High School, and attended Western Michigan University. He served in the US Army, and spent most of his adult life as a factory worker supporting the automotive industry. He met his future wife, Sandy, at a wedding in 1990. They were married at an intimate ceremony in Traverse City on June 23, 2013, with his son standing next to him as his Best Man, and his grandson serving as their ring bearer.

Harry loved the outdoors, which included golfing, going on walks, and fishing (with somewhat limited success). An avid golfer, he was a member of multiple local golf leagues, and also had the opportunity to golf in Ireland in 2000. He enjoyed reading, a good Manhattan (with a little cherry juice), and a nice drive, especially through Kensington. Harry was a sports fanatic, and a huge Michigan Wolverines fan. He had the opportunity to watch Michigan win the national championship live at the Rose Bowl in 1998, and he was thrilled to see the Wolverines recently make the College Football Playoffs.

Harry's family will be welcoming friends and loved ones at Lynch & Sons Funeral home on Sunday, February 13th, from 9:30 to 11:30 am.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice of Michigan ( or the U of M Department of Family Medicine Research Fund that will support the MyVoice initiative, a text message-based survey that asks young people for their insights and perceptions on emerging issues that affect their own health and well-being which will transform the way that research can inform policy (
