Helen Elaine Opalewski, child of the earth, taken back to the earth, reunited with love found, nurtured and lost. Today we mourn the passing but joyfully embrace the everlasting journey embarked on by our beloved Helen Elaine Opalewski (Nakoneczny). Native of the farm in Posen, MI. and the cherished widow of Mr. Frank Opalewski of Detroit, MI, lost to us 20 years ago this very month. The loving mother of Judi (Dale) Crawford of Highland, MI., Linda (Robert) Bankowski of Brighton, MI. and Cyndi (Richard) Dreyfus of Chesterfield, MO. Helen Elaine was also the adoring grandmother to Jeffrey (Laura), Kristi (Thomas), Dale (Felecia), Russ, Sarah, Jennifer and Casey as well as the great-grandmother to Megan, Carter, and the soon due, John Thomas. She also leaves fifty-six nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Katherine Nakonenczy and seven loving sisters and brothers.
She was a long time member and Past President of the VFW Ladies Auxillary, Wm. Tutro Post 4644. Her smile, her wit, her stripped jello at holidays and her treasured embrace may all be lost to us today, but her smile, her charm and her endearing love will be taken with us and passed through us for the remainder of our collective years for she was the flowering root of our many branches. We love you and will miss you.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Theodore Catholic Church, 8200 N. Wayne Road, Westland, MI 48185, on Monday, November 8, at 11AM. Friends may gather from 10:30AM until time of service.
Memorials may be made in Helen's honor to be used to purchase Raggedy Ann and Andy Dolls. They would be distributed by the Ladies Auxiliary #4644 to Toys for Tots--a terrific group that gives toys to kids. Donations may be made online at http://Toysfortots.org or mailed to the funeral home:
