Obituary for Henrietta Varilone

Henrietta Varilone, age 89, of Milford, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2015.

She was born on December 8, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan. She was raised by her mother, Leola Hughes and was close to her brothers, James and Robert Hughes and sister, Ruth her whole adult life. She worked as an administrative assistant in Detroit before beginning her family with George and having their children, Brenda, George Jr., Michael and Steven. Family was always of utmost importance to Henrietta and she was instrumental in hosting dinners and parties with family and friends throughout her life.

Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were a source of much pride and happiness. She always wanted to hear updates of their achievements and adventures.

George and Henrietta moved to Milford, Michigan in 1972 and remained there for the rest of their lives. They were active members of St. Mary Our Lady of the Snows Church and she also was involved with the Suburban League of Women for many years. Henrietta was a sports fan who loved to play golf and watched the Detroit Tigers and Lions with her family. She was also an avid card player who played well into her 89th year with her friends and family. She loved people and socializing and maintained a large constellation of friends throughout her life. As an artist, Henrietta worked at painting, ceramics and other mediums throughout the years with the commitment to create the beauty that she saw around her. We are blessed to have many oil paintings that remind us of her talent and love for art.

George and Henrietta had the opportunity to travel to many places throughout the globe and she loved to share these experiences with her family and friends. Italy and St. Kitts were two of her favorites, and she loved to have new experiences and meet new people.

Henrietta lit up a room with her smile and laughter. She loved nature, reading and made wonderful Italian food after lessons from her father-in-law during her first year of marriage. Henrietta loved Jesus and the church, and leaned on him during difficult times. We all were brought closer to God by our relationship with her and she will be dearly missed.

Henrietta was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, George; her son, Michael and granddaughter, Kalli. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Michael) Ziembroski; sons, George Jr., Steven (LeighAnn); Pamela Varilone; grandchildren, Jessica (Matthew) Breiding, Brandon (Erin) and Hayley Varilone, Chad and Michael Varilone, Evan, Nathan and Scott Varilone; great grandchildren, Henry, Owen and Catherine Breiding, Noel and Iris Varilone. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.
