Obituary for Henry "Hank" Stricker

Henry D. (“Hank”) Stricker, a resident of Milford, and formerly of Detroit, died on Friday, January 13, 2017. He was 90 years old.

The son of Dr. Henry and Helen Mae “Happy” Stricker, Hank grew up in Detroit and served in the US Army during World War II. After the war he went into banking and was proud of his role in financing the preservation of historic neighborhoods, especially Indian Village in Detroit. He often visited his father and step-mother, Grace, at the homestead on Weaver Road in Milford where the Strickers were instrumental in forming the Milford Historical Society. Henry never married and was active in the LIONS Club and served as District Governor for several terms as well as being the past president of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity and traveled widely in that capacity. He was on the board of directors for Leader Dogs for the Blind. Most Veteran’s Days would find him back in Milford, selling poppies for the American Legion.

After his father and step-mother’s passing, Henry kept the family homestead restored and often welcomed the historical society, of which he was a life member, and other civic groups to hold the picnics and meetings on the grounds at Weaver Road, where he was generous with his knowledge of area people and history and the collectible artifacts his parents had acquired. Preceded in death by his brother, William (Rosalie) Stricker, Hank was like a second father to his three nieces and three nephews who survive, Barbara Lynn Smith, Janice Clare Swan and Marilyn Jean Stricker; nephews, David Andrew Stricker, William Frederick Stricker and Guy Henry Stricker.
