Obituary for Herbert Arthur Swartz

Herbert Arthur Swartz, a long time resident of Highland Twp. and retired engineer from the Milford Proving Grounds, passed away on January 3, 2009 at the age of 69.
Beginning a career in Chicago as manager of Woolworths, his love of rebuilding and working on cars that began in his youth, brought him back to Bay City in quality control for Chevrolet and then engineering at the GM Tech Center in Warren, before he moved permanently to the General Motors Proving Ground. He retired in 2001 after thirty-nine years with General Motors. Herbs Fiero and membership in the Fiero Club were part of his passion for speed, racing cars on Woodward and attending the Indy 500 with friends. Auto shows and car shows, Johnny Cash and country music, the NRA were as important to his life as his beloved front porch, nature, and watching and feeding birds with his faithful Black Lab, Brisco.

He is survived by Joan Carol Swartz of Milford; son, Todd (Lisa Ann) Swartz of Royal Oak; daughter, Lisa Marie (Christopher) Post of Ypsilanti; grandchildren, Lindsey and Brandon Swartz; sister, Dorothy Bauer of Bay City, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Swartz of CA.

A Memorial Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, on Wednesday, January 7, at 1PM. Friends may gather from 12 noon until time of service. For further information please phone at 248-684-6645.
