Obituary for Howard I. McDougall

Howard McDougall, a long time resident of Highland Twp., died on January 21, 2012.

Born in Detroit on August 30, 1927, he was the son of John and Janet McDonald McDougall. He graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1945. After answering the call to serve in the U.S. Army, he began his 60 year career in labor relations and mediation. His expertise lead to the founding of his company, Labor Advisory Services in Troy. He was an expert in negotiating contracts and could assist disparate parties in finding common ground and resolution to their conflicts. He served on the Board of Directors for the Central States Pension Fund in Chicago and on the Board of Trustees for the Michigan Conference of Teamsters Welfare Fund. His sense of integrity was the key component in his professional and personal life. His long marriage to his beloved wife Sharon produced a large and loving family which he was blessed to see into yet another generation. The McDougalls were fixtures at St. Patrick's Day parades in Detroit, Lions and Tigers games and, of course, many Catholic Central games where he was a proud and constant alumni. His gift for storytelling regaled his sons and daughters and his grandchildren. His life centered around family, faith and friendships made through years of professional and fraternal connections. He was a longtime member of the Monaghan Council of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Highland.

He was preceded in death by Sharon, his beloved wife and best friend, and a son, Kevin McDougall.
He is survived by his children, Kathleen McDougall of West Bloomfield, Maureen (Daniel) Wagner of Commerce, Michael (Kristi) McDougall of Commerce, Timothy (Amy) McDougall of Commerce, Sharon McDougall of Highland, Brigid McDougall of White Lake, and Sean (Jamie) McDougall of Hartland; grandchildren, Mckenzie, Murphy, McCauley, Madden, Maggie, Griffin, and Marin McDougall, Boen, Jacob & Anna Boston, Steven & Jacob Wagner, Megan & Victoria McDougall and Brandon Davis; his sister, Lucille Ann Galarneau and many nieces, nephews, dear friends and colleagues who join with his family in mourning the death of a good and generous man and giving thanks for his life among them.

A Funeral Liturgy will be held at Church of the Holy Spirit, 3700 N. Harvey Lake Road, Highland, on Thursday, January 26, at 10AM with the Rev. Fr. Leo Lulko officiating. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery in Waterford Twp. Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty Street, Milford, on Tuesday 5-9PM and Wednesday 2-9PM, with a Rosary on Wednesday at 6PM. Memorials may be made in his name to Lions Club International or the Salvation Army.
