Obituary for Ian Nicholas Zimmie

Ian Nicholas Zimmie was born in Detroit on March 3, 1985 to Robert and Candice (Coffey) Zimmie. He was raised in Southfield with his brothers, graduated from Clarenceville High School in Livonia and studied criminal justice at Schoolcraft College.

An artist and a writer of poetry, Ians creative abilities led him to work with the City of Southfield in the sign shop creating metal street signs for the city. He taught the older people at his work how to use new computer technology and enriched his familys houses and yards with clever signs.

Ian was nostalgic and enjoyed his family, their traditions and history. He appreciated being home in the company of those he loved and cherished each years family vacation and trips to the Currys log cabin in Atlanta, Michigan. He kept his grandpas military hats and medals and insisted they all watch Muppets Family Christmas each year.

Ian had a love for nature and animals, especially his cat, Shelby, and his duck that he incubated from an egg who followed him everywhere. Hunting and fishing were two of his passions. He enjoyed deer hunting and on a very special fishing trip to Canada, Ian and his dad landed a 45 Pike which was proudly mounted and displayed in their home. He was great with kids and enjoyed the opportunities to teach his niece and nephew the joys of fishing.

He is survived by his parents, Robert and Candice Zimmie; brothers, Joe (the late Faith) Zimmie, Dan Zimmie, Jeff (Tanya) Zimmie, Matt (Jeane) Zimmie, and Ryan Zimmie; his nephew, Nathan; nieces, Taylor, Ashley, and Amber; many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, on Friday, December 7, at 7PM with Pastor Chris Cramer officiating. Friends may gather on Friday from 3PM until the time of service. Graveside Services will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in East China Twp. on Saturday, December 8, at 11AM.
