Obituary for Jack W. Myers

Jack W. Myers, a resident of Commerce Township and former resident of Walled Lake, passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2010. He was 76 years old. Born in Green Oaks Township, Michigan on December 9, 1933, the son of Otto & Agnes Myers, Jack grew up on a farm near Pontiac Trail and Decker Road in Walled Lake. At the age of eleven, he lost his father and would eventually leave school to begin working full time on the family farm. In November of 1954 he joined the Army and proudly served his country at the end of the Korean War. He married Sally Hueston on March 21, 1955 and after residing with family for a short time the newlyweds moved to their longtime home on Bass Lake Road in Commerce Township, where their five children were raised. Jack, a very gifted woodworker, architect and carpenter, enjoyed beginning his career in the lumber business with Wessingers and Iversons and later with Haggerty Lumber Yard. He briefly worked within the Milford Township Building Inspection and Development Departments and was always finding opportunities to impart his knowledge and meticulous work ethic to projects he was involved in. Over the years, Jack saw nearly every change in development to the surrounding communities of Walled Lake, Milford and Commerce and made many improvements to his own home which included two major renovations. When Jack wasnt working he enjoyed being outdoors. He was a great sportsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends as well as his leadership and activity with the Explorers and Boy Scouts of America. He will forever be remembered as a loving and devoted family man and steadfast friend.

In addition to Sally, his beloved wife of 55 years, Jack is survived by his loving daughters, Michelle (Dr. Brian) Nolan and Karen (Michael) Johnson; sons, Greg, Michael and Mark Myers; 13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Davis; brothers, Tom (Diane) and Jim (Ellen) Myers, several extended family members and many dear friends.
