Obituary for Jagdish S. Patel

Jagdish S. Patel, of Milford, passed away peacefully on September 25th, 2019. He was 84 years old. Jagdish Patel was born on Jan 5, 1935 in India, the eldest son to Shivabhai & Surajben Patel. He completed his studies, including a Master’s Degree in Geology, which took him to Kenya. He met his wife, Indira Patel, of 58 years in Kenya and raised three children, Jayshree, Darshana & Raj in Kenya. He briefly lived in the late 60’s in New York, USA.

He retired at an early age of 55, as an executive leading the Life Insurance department for a large insurance company in Kenya to retire in the United States. He has lived in USA for the last 30 years in St. Louis & Florida, moving to Milford, Michigan, 10 years ago to be with his son and three grandkids. Every winter, he would go to India to his home town to stay connected to his Indian roots.

He was a big believer in living life naturally (eating healthy foods, natural medicine & short siestas every afternoon). He lived happy and in good health until about six months ago, when he was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. While battling cancer, he continued to live a full life until the last day. He was calm and at peace in his passing. Family was very important to him and he was very close with his siblings, all three of his kids, and grandkids.

In his spare time, which he had plenty, he liked to read books, complete crosswords every day, walk a couple miles, listen to music, cooking and the occasional beer. He had a passion for the game of cricket, motorcycles and cars. He is survived by his wife, Indira of 58 years; children, Jayshree D. (Dilip) Patel, Darshana R. (Rajen) Patel, and Raj J. (Jackie) Patel; grandchildren, Komal, Payal, Paral, Malini, Bhavisha, Darshan, Priyanka, Sajan, and Nayan Patel; great granddaughter, Kavya; also many extended family and dear friends. His family & friends will miss him and fondly remember for all the memories he gave them.

A Public Viewing will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, MI on Friday, September 27th, at 8:30 AM until 10:30 AM followed by private family time and cremation, according to Hindu traditions to follow. A memorial service will be held at the B.A.P.S temple in Canton on Sunday afternoon.
