Obituary for James A. Beal

James A. Beal, a long time resident of Highland, died on January 27, 2017 at the age of 73.

Jim was born on August 17, 1943 in New Orleans, Louisiana, the son of Raymond Marion Beal and Mary Louise Hammitt Beal. The family lived in Louisiana, Vermont, and Portland, Maine, where Jim met Nancy Heatley. They wed on October 1, 1965 at the Chestnut Street United Methodist Church in Portland upon his graduation from Maine Maritime Academy. In 1966 they moved to Springfield, Pennsylvania while Jim sailed for Gulf Oil Corporation. In 1969 they moved to Royal Oak, Michigan, and later made their home in Highland, where they have lived for the past forty-one years.

Jim worked in the automotive industry in sales, program, and account management until his retirement in 2005. He also retired as a Captain with 26 years in the USNR.

Jim enjoyed many years singing with the HUMC choirs and Huron Valley Community Chorus. He was a former member of the Highland Township Planning Commission. In his later years, he especially enjoyed his volunteer work with the Beaumont Kidney Peer Mentor Group.

He loved the Lord, family, friends, laughter, camping, traveling, and knew every day was a gift.

In addition to Nancy, his beloved wife of over fifty-one years, he is survived by his son, Jim (Kris Wade) Beal; sister, Barbara (the late William) Goodge; his niece, Karen (Craig) Wood; great nephew, Christian Slade Wood, and many dear friends who join his family in both mourning his passing and giving thanks to God for his life among them.

Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, on Monday, January 30, from 2-9PM. A Funeral Service will be held at the Highland United Methodist Church, 680 W. Livingston Rd., Highland, on Tuesday, January 31, at 11AM with Pastor Tom Anderson officiating.
