Obituary for James A. Groening

James A. Groening passed away December 7, 2010 after an almost two year battle with cancer. He was 75 years old.

He is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn J. Groening; daughters, Lynette J. Groening, Gloria J. Wilson (William), Trina J. Kleckner (Jeffrey); son, Terence A. Groening (Carol Chan) and brother, Robert L. Groening. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Alexander, Dana and Hope Wilson; Justin and Randall Kleckner; and Jonas and Walter Groening; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mr. Groening retired from General Motors Corporation at the end of 1999 after 26 years of service. He enjoyed a 45 year career in noise and vibration engineering after receiving his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Wayne State University in 1959. Mr. Groening was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Milford, for 50 years where he served for many years as treasurer and on several boards. Mr. Groening was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers, the Acoustical Society of America, the Institute of Noise Control Engineers and the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America. Following retirement, he spent eight years restoring a 1935 Chevrolet Master Coach, which he displayed at a couple shows.

A Funeral Service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 620 General Motors Rd., Milford, on Friday, December 10, at 11AM. Cremation will follow. Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, Thursday 2-9PM. For further information please phone 248-684-6645.
