Obituary for James A. Zak

James A. Zak, a resident of Fenton, formerly of Highland died Thursday, January 29, 2009 at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland in Pontiac, Michigan. He was 61 years old. Jim was born in Detroit to Adolf and Lillian (nee Centkowski) Zak on May 13, 1947. He spent his growing up years in Garden City with his parents and five siblings. Jim graduated from Divine Child High School in Dearborn in 1965. The following year he joined the Marine Corps. and honorably served his country in Vietnam. That same year Jim met Janis Ashcraft and she soon would become the love of his life. On July 20, 1968 they married at St. Suzanne Church in Detroit. In the coming years they would together raise their three children, Lauren, Michael, and Andrea in Highland where they moved to in 1976.

Jim was most proud and devoted to his family. He will be remembered by them fondly as being funny and loving, and "the greatest father in the world". Jim worked hard, but played hard too, whether watching the Tigers Red Wings or off on one of the "fishing trips". In March of 2008, Jim and Janis took time out to enjoy a cruise in the Caribbean.

Jim worked for the Limbach Company, and proudly served them for 35 years. He was a mechanical contractor, a former Project Manager and most recently a Safety Director. His care for people showed in his high regard for safety in the workplace, and was an active member of the Union.
