Obituary for James Jim Lee Jackson

James "Jim" Lee Jackson, a resident of Highland Township and former longtime resident of Detroit, died at Providence Health Park in Novi, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, July 26, 2009. He was 74 years old. Born in Detroit on January 12, 1935, the son of Merwin Robert and Anna Jackson, Jim grew up in Detroit and graduated from MacKenzie High School, class of 1953. On December 18, 1954, he married his high school sweetheart, Marie Deckard at Grandale Presbyterian Church in Detroit. Having already enlisted with the United States Army, Jim began his active duty, serving his country honorably and proudly during the Korean War. He returned home to his wife and began his longtime work as a Detroit police officer, working with the department for over 25 years. After his retirement from police service he enjoyed working with Sinai Hospital Security for over 14 years.

Jim Jackson always rooted for the home team and having grown up in Detroit, he was proud to have the Tigers as his. The play by play on the radio and cheers for a win were familiar sounds in the Jackson household. He had a wry, yet charming, sense of humor that made it impossible not to smile while around him. "Tell 'em I'm a doctor," he'd playfully say to his kids when being introduced to their school teachers and friends. He made meeting people look easy and had a wonderful ability for drumming up casual conversation with anyone. He was a longtime dedicated member of the Milford American Legion Post 216 and a member of the Highland Moose Lodge 2370.

Jim was preceded in death by his son, Michael Lee.

In addition to his beloved wife, Marie (nee Deckard), he is survived by his son, Larry (Karen); daughters, Vicki (John) Pilotti, Linda (Butch) Maxwell; grandchildren, Sheila Maxwell, Nathan Pokowski, Rachel Jackson, Clayton Maxwell; brother, Ronald (Jan); numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and several dear friends, including his longtime friends at the Detroit Police Department, Milford American Legion and Highland Moose Lodge.

A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 East Liberty, Milford on Thursday, July 30 at 11AM with the Rev. Dr. R. John Harris officiating. Military Honors will follow at the Milford American Legion. Friends may visit at the Funeral Home on Wednesday 5-9PM. American Legion service Wednesday evening. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Milford American Legion, Post 216 or to Moose Charities. For further information please call 248-684-6645.
