Obituary for James Rickey McDonald

James Rickey McDonald, a resident of Highland Township, died at his home on November 2, 2018 after suffering an apparent heart attack. He was 69 years old.

Born on April 18, 1949 in Gastonia, North Carolina, the son of James Ray and Doris (Bryson) McDonald, Jim grew up in Westland, MI and in North Carolina. After graduation from Hunter Hess High School in Gastonia, North Carolina Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served his country from 1967-1971.

He later studied at Sienna Heights College, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree and then Central Michigan University where he graduated with a Master of Science in Administration degree. He enjoyed a long career in production control and logistics with Chrysler Corporation (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles). In retirement, he enjoyed working logistics with Excel Machinery Rigging Company in Milford, MI

Jim was an amazing dad to his daughter, Melissa, best friend of his son-in-law, Joe, and a devoted and doting grandpa. He would do anything for his family for whom he lovingly gave his time and expertise in painting and remodeling projects in their home and in the garden that he started in their yard. He loved movies, television shows, animals, and especially attending his granddaughter, Kaylynne’s dance recitals and fishing with his grandson, Joey, on White Lake. He was a good man and will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his daughter, Melissa (Joseph) Lagodzinski, and Melissa’s mother, Kay Kokesh; his grandchildren, Kaylynne and Joseph; his brothers, Dean (Michelle) McDonald and Steve (Shelby) McDonald; nephews, Jason and Christopher; niece, Adena McDonald Payne and many dear friends.


Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, on Wednesday, November 7, from 4-8PM. A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, November 8, at 11AM with The Rev. Msgr. John Budde officiating. Cremation will follow. Memorials may be made in his name to Puppy Pals, 4241 Country Glen Circle, Dayton, OH 45432 or to the American Cancer Society. For further information please phone 248-684-6645
