Obituary for James Robert Koresky

James R. Koresky, a resident of Milford, MI died in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 30, 2020. He was 83 years old.

Born on January 28, 1937 and raised in East Detroit, he graduated from East Detroit High School and spent a year playing football at Michigan State before transferring to Adrian College where he joined Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, excelled on the football team and earned his BA. He was inducted into Adrian’s Football Hall of Fame.

On a blind date to go horseback riding, set up by friends, Jim met Lillian Jeanne Rodger and on June 12, 1965, they were married in the Troy Presbyterian Church.

After moving to Milford with their son and daughter, Jim taught Physical Education at Muir Middle School for thirty years, earned his Masters Degree from Eastern Michigan University, and coached the Golf Team at Milford High School for thirty-five years before retiring. He was inducted into the Michigan High School Hall of Fame for his long service as a golf coach. He loved golf and was excellent at it. He played in leagues locally and always on vacation. He loved camping and had done so in forty-six out of fifty states. An avid snowmobiler, he also wrote articles for snowmobiling magazines. He also loved to hunt, deer and pheasant – a tradition he passed along to his son, Rob, and granddaughter and grandsons. Proud of a trophy 12-point buck he once harvested, he was prouder still that he had taught the generations growing up around him to hunt and camp and compete in sports and enjoy the out of doors.

For the last sixteen years he and Jeanne have wintered out in Florida enjoying their retirement, a wide circle of friends, and their growing family.

Jim Koresky was an easy man to like. His students worked for his approval and would line up to be his assistant in P.E. classes. He was always interested in local sports teams and ever generous with his time and knowledge. He built three homes for his family to reside in and would pitch in to help on the construction projects of friends and fellow teachers. Whatever the job, he would show up, pitch in and do his part.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Jeanne; son, Rob (Jennifer) Koresky and daughter, Cindy (Bruce) Halsted; grandchildren, Sam and Megan Koresky and Christina, Anna and Pierce (Siena) Halsted; brother, Eugene Koresky and sister, June Dixon as well as many nieces, nephews, dear friends and extended family members who join with his family in mourning the passing of a good man and giving thanks to God for his life among them.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Stella (nee. Cionek) Koresky and his grandson, Jonathan Koresky.

A Memorial Gathering will be held at Jim's home, 890 Nortoon in Milford on Thursday, September 3, 2020. The gathering will be held outdoors and friends may visit from 3:00PM - 5:00PM.

Memorial contributions are encouraged in Jim’s name to a Charity of your choice.
