Janet L. Burgess died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on June 21, 2021. Janet was 88 at the time of her death.
Janet was born in Detroit on March 29, 1933 to William H. and Alta L. Trembath. She was an excellent student and active in song, dance and cheerleading at Northwestern High School. After her mother passed away when Janet was 13, her father raised her and introduced her to a lifelong love of all sports, including road trips to many venues. Janet was a discerning fan of Tigers baseball, Red Wings hockey, and Michigan football.
While working as a bookkeeper, she met the love of her life, William T. Burgess, and they were married September 24, 1955. Janet and Bill were married for more than 56 years before his death in 2012, and were blessed to raise two strong children, William (born in 1959) and Elizabeth (born in 1961).
Janet was very active with multiple interests throughout her life. Professionally, in addition to raising their children, she worked with her husband in his accounting firm. Janet was an accomplished singer with a marvelous soprano voice, and she sang in a professional ensemble for many years and in church choirs until shortly before her death. When you heard the one person hit the highest note in perfect tune, that was Janet. Janet and Bill also were omnipresent at the academic, athletic and family activities of their children and grandchildren, and they enjoyed boating on the Great Lakes.
Janet was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her two older sisters (Audrey and Anita). She is survived by her children, William (Kathryn) and Elizabeth (Suzanne), her direct and extended family grandchildren, Tom (Anne) Burgess, Kelsey (Vincent) Pizzino, Michael Jarasz, Cooper Peters-Wood and Hank Peters-Wood, her great grandson, Will Burgess, and several nieces and nephews.
Janet was loving, intelligent, devoted, religious, organized, social, outgoing, independent, a lover of animals, and proud and protective of her family. Her network of friends was extensive, and she will be missed by all.
Janet’s family will welcome friends at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, Michigan on Thursday, June 24th, 2021, between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 25th, 2021 at 11 a.m. Gathering will begin at 10 AM. Interment will be private.
