Obituary for Jeffrey G. Addley

Jeff Addley, of Milford, MI died suddenly playing hockey on Sunday, December 22, 2013. He was 58 years old.

He was born in Windsor, Ontario on December 15, 1955 to Glen and Marlene Addley. He showed his engagement with people early in life as his first word was cook while reaching out for a neighbors tray of cookies. After his brother Gary was born, the family moved to London, Ontario. Shortly after, his sister Susan joined the family. He was active in Boy Scouts, enjoyed playing ice hockey and cheering for his favorite player Dave Keon of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Every year the Addley family looked forward to their two week vacations at Bayfield on Lake Huron. This 23 year old tradition created lifelong friends and many fond memories of yellow rubber rafts, 86 steps to the beach, first golf games, drive-in movies, nightly hide-and-seek games, and bonfires with wink pop cans filled with a surprise for the under aged friends and family. In 1968, the family moved to Wayne, NJ. When Jeff was 14, Glen and friend Myron created the Valley Skaters league so the boys could continue playing the sport they loved. Together with his best buddy, Jim Arlock, the three boys attended Wayne Valley High School where Jeff was an All-State soccer player. In 1973 Jeff attended Michigan State University. Knowing Jeff was from New Jersey, MSU Head Hockey Coach Amo Bessone teased Jeff and asked if he knew which end of the stick do you hold? As a freshman he played Junior Varsity for the MSU Hockey Team but was quickly promoted to Varsity after scoring 14 points in two games. Jeff would continue on to play five years of Varsity Hockey for Michigan State. In between hockey and class work, Jeff met his biggest fan Wendy Saunto. The two Spartans were married on October 15, 1979. Jeff joined Motor Wheel in Lansing and moved to Wayne shortly after. On February 22, 1983, Michel Bryant Addley was born to two very proud parents. While in Wayne, Jeff joined his buddy Duck and started playing in the mens Wayne Westland hockey league. He continued working with Motor Wheel in Lansing, Ypsilanti and Saline. On August 31, 1986, Jeff and Wendy celebrated the birth of their second son, Sean Jeffrey. Eight years later the family moved to Ft. Wayne, IN to continue working for Airflow (formerly Motor Wheel). Jeff was involved in all of the boys activities as they grew up and especially at Carroll High School- diving, marching band and hockey. He loved coaching and cheering at all of the boys and his nieces and nephews endeavors. In 2004, Jeff returned to Michigan to work for Bosch (formerly Airflow). Their new home on Stonewood Court in Milford was not just a new location but a new neighborhood family. Jeff was an avid outdoorsman and his passion for hockey, golf and hunting made precious friends who were like family, too. Wendy shared all of Jeffs new family groups and was eager to bring her home baked cookies to celebrate birthdays, graduations and tailgate parties. He was most proud of his boys as they graduated from Purdue and MSU. Jeff and Wendy enjoyed traveling together in recent years to Greece, Dubai, Phoenix and North Carolina. He enjoyed and adored being married to Wendy; she complemented and completed the fun lifestyle that he exuded. They shared their compassion and enthusiasm for life together.

In addition to Wendy, his beloved wife, Jeff is survived by his sons, Michel and Sean Addley; parents, Glen & Marlene Addley; brother, Gary (Diane) Addley; sister, Susan (Paul) Oliver; mother-in-law, Patricia Saunto; sister-in-law, Harvalee Saunto; brothers-in-law, Steve and Stuart (Tina) Saunto. Also survived by his nieces & nephews, Amber (Jimmy) Welch, Cara Addley, Jack Oliver, Sarah Oliver, Melissa (Seth) Irving, Jessica (Zane) Dole, Lauren Saunto, many dear friends and colleagues.

A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, Friday, December 27 at 11 AM. Friends may visit Thursday 3-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made in Jeff's name to: www.hockeyhasheart.com.
