Obituary for John Henry Foran

John Henry Foran, a longtime resident of Detroit, MI, died on Thursday, May 6, 2021. He was 84 years old.

John was born to parents, Patrick and Viola (nee. Ladd) Foran on March 25, 1937 in Brantford, Ontario Canada. John was a proud Canadian and thoroughly enjoyed playing pond hockey, coaching his son, Sean’s youth hockey team and he was rarely absent for any of his grandson’s games. John also enjoyed going to many Detroit Red Wings games with his friend, Dave Martin and his grandchildren as they were season ticket holders for many years. His love of hockey has now been passed down to 3 generations!

John received his Industrial Engineering Degree from Lawrence Tech University and his Master’s in Psychology from Wayne State University. He worked for General Motors for close to 30 years.

John had an eclectic list of hobbies. He loved to sail boats and he participated in the Port Huron to Mackinaw race many times. He was a member of the Detroit Yacht Club and swam there 3-4 times per week. John was the past master of the Garden City, Masonic, Lodge #587 and he also played the bagpipes, and was a member of Moslem Shrine, Detroit, Bagpipe Unit. Most of all, John loved his family. He looked forward to spending time with his children and grandkids and he will be forever missed.

He is survived by his children, Dianne Foran, Beth (Charlie) Hall and Sean (Katie) Foran; grandchildren, Nicole Hall, Zac Hall, Lindsey (Shawn) Conner, Sara Kohs, Nick Foran, Kayla Foran, Ava Foran, Jack Foran and Jake Foran; great-granddaughter, Kaylee Conner; siblings, Dennis (Janet) Foran, Patrick (Patricia) Foran and late, Geraldine (Ross) Brown as well as many dear friends and extended family members.

Visitation will be held at Lynch and Sons, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford on Saturday, May 8, 2021 from 10:00AM - 12:00PM. A time of sharing will begin at 12:00PM.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and CDC restrictions, the funeral home is limited to 25 guests at a time. Those attending are asked to wear a mask, maintain appropriate physical distance and be brief in visiting to allow others to do the same.



In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to Shriner’s Hospitals for Children.
