Obituary for John E. Abbas

John E. Abbas, a long time resident of Milford and member of Christ Lutheran Church, died on May 7, 2014 at the age of 78.
Born on August 20, 1935 in Buffalo Center, Iowa, the son of Thues and Lena (Hundt) Abbas, John grew up in Northern Iowa. It was in Iowa that he met Mary Sykes at the town festival. They fell in love and married on July 31, 1960 in the Lutheran Church in Burt, Iowa. They made their home and started their family in Iowa before moving to Michigan where John found construction work with his brother-in-law. They have made their home in Milford for over forty-five years and greatly enjoyed fellowship with their church family.

John was a member in good standing for over forty years with Operating Engineers Local 324, during which time he worked for many years with Holloway and B & V Construction Companies.

John was not afraid to get his hands dirty and he loved to be outdoors. You could often find him tinkering in the garage, weeding the flower beds or digging in the dirt. He spent many years restoring his 1972 Chevy pickup truck with the help of his friend Harmey Hamilton. John and Mary spent several more years cruisin' in his beautiful truck with many great friends. One of his greatest pleasures was snuggling with babies, he seemed to always have the perfect touch. John also loved to fish, whether the water was frozen or not. No matter what John was doing, it was always better with family and friends. Being a loving husband and friend, caring father and playful grandpa, John was always generous in spending time with those he loved.

In addition to Mary, his beloved wife of over fifty-three years, he is survived by daughters, Sarah (Alan) Arrasmith, Carmen (Stephen) Wolfe; son, James (Courtney) Abbas; grandchildren, Angelo Cipallaro, Aaron Arrasmith, Tyler Rhoads, Gabriel Abbas, Bobby Witthuhn, Nicholas and Rachel Wolfe; great grandchildren, Jameson and Maverick Abbas; sisters, Christina (Robert) Christian, Marge (the late Faye) Asche, Judy (Greg) Arrowood; brothers, Ted (Sandy) Abbas, Delbert (Janice) Abbas, Derold (Ruby) Abbas, Elmer (Carol) Abbas and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Dominic Cipallaro, and siblings, Harold (Louise) Abbas, Arlene (Robert) Pate.

Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, on Friday, May 9, from 4-9PM. A Funeral Service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 620 General Motors Rd., Milford, on Saturday, May 10, at 10:30AM. Cremation will follow. Memorials may be made in his name to the Christ Lutheran Church Kitchen Fund. For further information please phone 248-684-6645.
