John Skibbe, of Milford, passed away peacefully in his home on October 28, 2015. He was 67 years old.
Family and friends were the cornerstone of John’s life. His parents Jeanette and Harold were blessed with a loving and attentive son. His sisters Jean and Ruth shared the joys and challenges of childhood with John. He was both an uncle and a friend to his nephews.
John embraced Liz’s family as his own. When his father-in-law George White died, he and Liz provided a home to shelter and comfort his mother-in-law, Betty White. He gladly accepted his new role as father and grandfather to Liz’s children: Douglas and his wife Sherry and their children Hope and Robby; and Liz Ann, her husband Mark and children Tony, Beth, Cassie and Sean and grandchildren Aidan, Ellie, Olivia, and Leo. With a sense of humor and brotherly love he welcomed his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law and their families into his life.
When you met John it was like meeting a friend, because John never met a stranger. John made life long friends during his tenure at Ford Motor Company. He was a founding member of the R.O.M.E.O.s, (Retired Old Men Eating Out.) John joined the R.O.M.E.O.s weekly for breakfast and a shopping trip where he generally did not buy anything.
John found his greatest passion and pleasure in sharing life with his love - Liz. They shared each other’s interests; John his tractors and Liz her horses. Most of all they enjoyed their daily lives together starting with morning coffee in rocking chairs on the porch and days spent helping each other fulfill each other’s life.. Liz found in John a strong, loving partner upon whom she could rely.
Friends, family and especially Liz will miss John’s strength, dry sense of humor and loving presence.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth A. White; step-children, Douglas (Sherry) Lovins, Elizabeth (Mark Woodworth) Lovins; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; mother, Jeannette Skibbe; sisters, Jean (Whitney) Gee, Ruth (Albert) Hafer . He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Skibbe.
