Obituary for Jon Carleton Chouinard

Jon Carleton Chouinard, of Milford, passed away in the loving care of his family on March 14, 2017 at the age of 77.

Jon Carleton Chouinard of Milford, died in his home on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 surrounded by Marjie, Jon, Elaine, family and friends. Jon was one day shy of his 78th birthday. Jon was born on March 15, 1939 in Detroit to Louis and Pearl Chouinard and has one sister, Darlene. Jon grew up in Detroit on Mark Twain and was part of the Precious Blood parish. Jon graduated from Chadsey High School and attended a few trade schools and took some classes at Lawrence Tech.
In August 1963, Jon met Marjorie Oller via his best friend Joe, who at the time was dating her sister, Karen. Jon and Marjie married on September 9, 1966 after Marjie graduated from Providence School of Nursing. He has two children, Jon and Elaine and six grandchildren.
Jon was working at Ford Motor Company throughout the 1960’s and took a second job early in their marriage at D.T. Randall in Royal Oak. Jon was always extremely handy and his breadth of knowledge in the trades was unparalleled. Given that, he followed his passion and with the support of his wife, left the corporate world to start his own company, Oakridge Service Company (OSCO) in 1978 obtaining his General Contractor license from the State of Michigan. This led to many odd jobs and even a steady one for a number of years overseeing the maintenance of the Providence Medical Building in Southfield, MI. Later in his career, he turned the focus of OSCO to asbestos abatement focusing on residential housing.
Jon was not one to shy from his gifts, sharing his knowledge via acts of kindness both known and unknown for family, friends, neighbors and strangers. Jon also had an insatiable need to gather knowledge by engaging all in conversations and asking questions. This wealth of knowledge would always pay dividends to those around him as Jon was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. However, it was not only talents but was charity that defined Jon as a person participating in Big Brothers, helping at the warming center at Shrine, being a volunteer at 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk, paying for someone’s tab on the other side of the restaurant for no particular reason or just stepping up without being asked to help someone in need.
Jon loved to travel with his family, spend time at his cottage, and could be found both busy “tinkering” with something as well as taking a nap in his favorite chair afterwards. Most of all, Jon spent as much time as he could enjoying his grandchildren.

In addition to Marjie, his beloved wife of over 50 years, Jon is survived by his son, Jon (Angela) Chouinard; daughter, Elaine (Michael) Montico; grandchildren, Anna, Cole, Lueck, Owen and Alex; sister, Darlene Musto; sister-in-law, Karen (Joseph) Ziembo; brothers-in-law, William (Nancy) Oller and Mark (Therese) Oller as well as many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

Jon was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Pearl Chouinard; granddaughter, Audrey Montico and brother-in-law, Donald Musto.
