Joseph Edward McGuire, a resident of Highland Twp., died at his home in the care of his loving family on December 18, 2016 after battling cancer for many months. He was 61 years old.
Joseph was born on October 24, 1955 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Joseph Francis McGuire and Catherine Veronica Flynn. During his teenage years and following graduation from Milford High School, Joe worked and became co-owner in the family business, Highland Cycle. Eventually he joined the Operating Engineers Local 324 and worked as a steel crane operator, shop foreman and mechanic with his brother's company, McGuire Steel.
Joe had a passion for all types of racing. In his youth, he raced flat track dirt bikes. Through the years he built and raced motorcycles and snowmobiles. He enjoyed drag racing at Milan Speedway and he loved watching Nascar. Harley motorcycles were his true enthusiasm, and he loved to ride and do his own custom building.
In addition to his wife, Barbara, he is survived by his daughters, Barbara McGuire of Grand Blanc and Kelly (Brad) Summers of Holly; son, Joseph B. (Carly) McGuire of E. Lansing; step-children, Christopher (Tina) King and Julie (Justin) Henry and their children; grandchildren, Autumn and Bennett; siblings, Daniel McGuire, John McGuire, Mary McGuire, Frank (Barb) McGuire, and many nieces, nephews and dear friends who join his family in mourning his passing and giving thanks for his his life among them. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph F. and Catherine McGuire, a brother, Mike McGuire, and nephews, Sean McGuire and Brian McGuire.
A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, on Thursday, December 22, at 11AM with The Rev. Fr. Wayne Ureel officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 21, from 2-7PM and on Thursday from 10AM until the time of service. Memorials may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society or American Lung Association.
