Obituary for Joseph Heuser

Joseph Leo Heuser of Brooksville Florida, formerly of Milford and Howell Michigan, passed away on Thursday March 21, 2013 peacefully at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Detroit Michigan and after retiring at 54 moved to Florida. Joe�s career started at Fisher Body in Flint Michigan while attending General Motors Institute (currently Kettering University). Joe was hired by General Motors immediately upon graduating from GMI in 1949 with an Engineering Degree and a minor in Accounting. In 1956 Joe was hired by Ford Motor Company to work at their automotive facility at Wixom Michigan, at that time the largest factory in the world under a single roof. In 1965 Joe was transferred to the Ford Tractor Division and, as part of his job, spent the next 19 years traveling throughout Europe, Mexico, and South America, including 2 years in Paris France, setting up manufacturing operations at 8 plant locations until his retirement in 1984.

Joe was very active in the community: President of the Milford Michigan Jaycees; Member of the Elks Club, Howell Michigan; Youth Football coach, Spring Hill Florida. At St. Joan of Arc church in Spring Hill, Florida he started a paper drive, was instrumental in the establishment and organization of the annual carnival fund raising event, participated in Bible study, was president of the Men�s Club and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Sports were a very important part of Joe�s life. He lettered in numerous sports while attending the University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy. He was an invaluable line-man on the University of Detroit varsity football team and was also on the golf team and reserve baseball & basketball teams. He played on the Jaycee�s volleyball team in Milford Michigan and after retiring in Florida played on the 65 and older softball team until the age of 83.
Restless after retiring Joe, with his wife Carol, started several successful businesses and worked for numerous charities. He also bought and sent care packages to the troops overseas for years. A very spiritual man, Joe dedicated his life to the Catholic faith. He has been an usher his entire adult life and has been a volunteer for every church he has been a member of, including volunteering at numerous activities at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and as a member of the �Tuesday� crew at St. Vincent DePaul society.

Survivors include a daughter; Mary Anne Bowman of Salt Lake City, Utah, and six sons; Mike Heuser and Jim Heuser of Thompsonville, Michigan; John Heuser of Travelers Rest, South Carolina; Jeffrey Brause of Howell, Michigan; Joseph Heuser of Sterling, New York; Marc Heuser of Traverse City, Michigan; 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, a sister, Mary Anne Wood of New Port Richey, Florida � and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, on Friday, April 5, from 6-8PM. A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, April 6, at 11AM. Burial will follow at St. Mary�s Cemetery, Milford.


This man did so many things that touched so many lives � the world will miss him.
