Obituary for Jr James E. Riney

James Edward Riney, Jr., of Wixom, Michigan and Bloomfield, Kentucky, died June 18, 2008. He was 66 years old. Jim was born on June 16, 1942 in Owensboro, Kentucky to parents James Jack Edward Riney and Lucille Adams Riney.

Jim attended the University of Louisville where he studied pre-med and graduated from Bellarmine College where he earned a Bachelors degree in Psychology, a field that significantly aided his communications with and understanding of others throughout his life. His early studies were helpful attribute to his work in Finance. Jim was known for his integrity and honesty at Ford Motor Credit where he worked for 34 years and was Regional Manager upon retirement.

Jim loved nature and the outdoors. For more than 20 years he was involved with the Multi-Lakes Conservation Association. He was passionate about teaching as a Range Officer and proud to be a Boy Scout troop leader. Jim cherished his collection of badges that represent his influence on the lives of many young men. Hunt Camp and Fish Camp were special times Jim spent with his buddies where they focused on male bonding, in addition to hunting and fishing.

Jim was always doing: tinkering, designing, fixing, creating. He transitioned easily from flannel to a tux and back again. Jim made friends everywhere he went. He was a good listener but also an exceptional conversationalist. He had the gift of gab and was a true people person. Kathleen remembers well the stories he always told. The perfect example of his character was when he and his Boy Scout troop lost their way while hiking. When they came across a small town in the middle of no where, Jim did not hesitate to strut right into the local biker bar, proudly wearing his Boy Scout uniform, with hopes of making a quick friend or two to help him and his scouts find their way back to camp.

On September 28, 1996, Jim married Kathleen OSullivan and have since spent nearly 12 years together traveling the world to places like Portugal, Spain, Alaska, Hawaii, the Bahamas, Monte Carlo, and especially Fatima. They had dreamed of spending an upcoming anniversary in Ireland to explore each of their familys history of which they were so proud. In Jims retirement, Kathleen and he traveled frequently between their two homes. Jim especially loved the life they lived together in Bloomfield, Kentucky on Taylorsville Lake.

Jim is survived by his wife Kathleen OSullivan Riney; three children, James E. Riney III, Robert B. (Annie Wang) Riney and Jean M. (Paul) Riney-Niewiadomski; granddaughters, Olivia Riney and Anya Riney-Niewiadomski; sister, Carol Rensel and many loving extended family members and dear friends. Preceded in death by his parents, James Jack Edward Riney and Lucille Adams Riney and two brothers Thomas Larry Lamar Riney and Robert Len Leon Riney.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church, 1955 E. Commerce Rd., Milford, Friday, 11 AM with Fr. Ron Anderson officiating. Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, Thursday 4-9PM. Memorials encouraged to Capuchin Soup Kitchen & Boy Scouts at Multi Lakes Conservation Association. For further information call 248-684-6645.
