Juanita Irene Taylor, a resident of Milford for over 31 years, passed away at her home in the care of her loving family on May 13, 2009. Born December 4, 1927 in Detroit, Juanita was the youngest of nine children of David and Nellie (Bright) Goward.. She grew up in southwest Detroit and met the love of her life, Everard "Alvin" Taylor after he returned from service in the US Army. Following the wedding proposal on Belle Isle, they married on August 24, 1946 and celebrated 60 years of marriage living first in Detroit and then Milford. Juanita worked with Kresge's and later Kmart for over 48 years. A great woman of faith,and a devoted member of Milford Presbyterian Church for 31 years, Juanita was always willing and able to serve. Known and loved as "Kitchen Boss" she masterfully directed church luncheons for many years, tables always set with the prettiest seasonal flowers and decorations. She was the secretary for Milford Presbyterian Women and a tireless volunteer for Community Sharing and the church's missions including the Detroit soup kitchen .
Juanita loved food, especially desserts, and always arranged lots of pot-lucks; she would tell everyone to bring any dish they wanted but then proceed to tell everyone which dish they should bring or the one she would like them to bring or what everyone else would like them to bring,
Juanita kept her family together, always organizing the yearly family reunion, this year's set for next month at Milford Park. Together with her four daughters she had parties almost every month at different locations especially enjoying Frankenmuth and the gatherings where they all brought their favorite snacks and drinks.
Proceded in death by her husband in 2006 and a daughter, Sharon Karrio, she is survived by her loving daughters, Sandra (Alfred) Marino, Donna (Frederick) Ray, Nancy (John) Carrier, Cindy (Tim) Kerby; Diana Henley, whom she thoight of as a daughter; fourteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Milford Presbyterian Church, 238 N. Main St., Milford, on Saturday, May 16, at 11AM, with the Rev. Dr. R. John Harris officiating. Burial Roseland Park Cemetery. Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, on Friday 3-9PM and Saturday 9AM until the time of service at the church. Memorials may be made in her name to Sandra Marino.
