Juanita Joan Zinger, a resident of Commerce Township, and former resident of Detroit, passed away at home in the care of her family on January 25, 2009, after a battle with cancer. She was 48 years old.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Kerry; children, Kandis Richards, Kyle Zinger, Dawn Ybarra, Kim Cole; mother, Mary Richards; siblings, Donald (Laura) Richards, Mary Ann Prusak, Hubert, Mark Richards, Judy Vanover, Michelle, and Larry Richards; many nieces and nephews, cousin, Flo and caregiver and best friend, Mary Noel. She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Richards, and brothers Tommy, Jimmy, and Gerald Richards.
Juanita lit up every room she entered. She enjoyed talking to everyone she came into contact with, and people quickly fell in love with her. She was a huge fan of Elvis Presley and had travelled to Graceland in recent years. Like The King, Nitas contagious smile and vivacious energy were the stuff of legends, as was Baby Cakes uncanny ability to get everyone out on the dance floor.
Nita lived for many years in Detroit, and was ever a fearless protector for the neighborhood kids, enjoyed cooking meals for many, and always advocated the importance of education. She was the first to give her last dollar to help a child or adult in need. Even homeless animals knew the security of her doorstep.
She raised her children with all the love she had, and set the example for her entire family, a true testament to people caring for each other.
