Obituary for Judith "Judy" Ann Clemens

Judith Ann Clemens, a beloved long-time resident of Milford, passed away on August 9, 2022. She was 75 years old.

Judy is the beloved daughter of the late Richard and Margaret Baker. Born on March 14, 1947, she spent 61 of her 75 years in Milford – most of it in the house her father built at 520 E Liberty after World War II.

After graduating from Milford High School in 1965, she ventured west (but not too far), and spent the next 8 years in Kalamazoo. She attended Western Michigan University where she graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science with a focus in Special Education. In the Fall of 1966, she met Roger on a blind date. They dated for the better part of the next 2 years and married in June of 1968 after Judy graduated. In the Fall of 1968 they welcomed their first-born, Matt, and Judy soon after started her teaching career while Roger finished his degree. In 1972 they welcomed Chris, and a year later they moved back to the Detroit area. After 6 years in Union Lake the family found their way back to Milford and settled in the house on E Liberty that Judy grew up in. In the Fall of 1980, Katy joined the family. The kid’s childhoods were filled with happy memories of family vacations, holiday celebrations, trips up north with close friends, sports, and performances in band, choir, and theatre.

Judy went back to work in the mid-80’s and eventually resumed her teaching career. She taught for several years at the alternative high school on Duck Lake Road and finished her career at Lakeland High School as it had started - teaching special ed.

She was a lifelong, active member of the Milford United Methodist Church, and a longtime advocate for the library – serving many years as a Library trustee.

Retirement brought many travels with Roger – she especially loved spending time at their cabin at Elk Lake. More than anything she enjoyed spending time with her 5 grandchildren. She was full of love and passion for many things including her students, her colleagues, her many friends, her church, her community, her pets, and most of all, her family.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years Roger Clemens; children, Matthew (Gretchen) Clemens, and Christopher Clemens; grandchildren, Alexander, Audrey, Noah, Benjamin, and Bailey Clemens; siblings, Bette (Keith) Johnson, and Gary (Pam) Baker; also, many extended family and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathryn Margaret Clemens.

Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 East Liberty St. Milford on Friday, August 12th, 2022 from 3 - 8pm.
